Dates: The Metal Works Merit Badge will be
offered Jan. 23, Feb. 20 and Feb. 27.
Time: 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. or so the day the merit
badge is offered
Prereqs and Blue Cards: There are no prerequisites
to do before the merit badge. Everything will be covered that day,
and you will take your blue card home with you.
Who can go: Only those boys signed up on a first come, first served
basis will be allowed to take this Merit Badge. We only have so many
spots that can be safely available.
Location: UNI's Metal Casting Center, part of the
Industrial Technology Center, which is across University Avenue from
the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.
Parking: Park in the lot between biology and the
Industrial Technology Center (ITC). That is the lot northeast of the
ITC. We'll have parking passes for you. Enter through the doors
closes to the parking lot. We'll have signs posted in the building
showing the way to the Center.
Lunch: Please bring a sack lunch and any snacks you
want to eat
Clothing: This is important. Boys and adults should
wear long sleeve cotton shirts and denim jeans (no nylon or
polyester) with no worn, ripped or loose threads. Hard soled shoes
are preferred or boots, but sneakers will be accepted if that is all
they have. Boys/adults with work boots will be allowed to pour metal
if they wish. The Metal Casting Center will provide safety glasses
and gloves. All these clothes should be old clothes.
Note: This is a foundry situation where extremely hot molten
metal will be poured. Every effort will be made to ensure everyone's
safety. Please instruct your children that they must listen and pay
attention at all times. Any boy or adult who is not following safety
instructions will be asked to leave.

Any boy who is not in the building by 8:15 a.m. WILL BE
CONSIDERED ABSENT and WE will call the boys on a stand by
list to take your place. If you have a conflict and know you CAN'T
attend, please contact Jean Draude at the Scout Office 319-234-2867
as soon as possible. The day of the merit badge, you can contact
