So far, the National Jamboree officials HAVE NOT required the new Centennial uniforms for the 2010 Jamboree. If you want to purchase those as your son grows out of current uniforms, go ahead.

Thoughts from previous Jamboree parents:
You may want to send an extra official scout shirts with all the appropriate insignia on it, but only two are required. Three pairs of scout shorts work very well, but only two are required.

You may want to send a couple more T-shirts as well. They should be scout-related, Jambo-related or extras of the Winnebago contingent t-shirts. The wicking scout t-shirts usually offered through the Jamboree catalog work very well at Jamboree, and we are offering a wicking t-shirt too..

Socks, this is an area that you don’t want to skimp on. There is lots and lots of walking so feet get hot and sweaty. Only 3 pair of socks are required, but 5 or more pair are better. Boys also lose lots of socks.

Shoes: Do not send new shoes to the Jamboree. These must have been broken in for at least a month. We don’t want blisters and sore feet. Color of shoes is not an issue; comfort is key here.

Laundry: The boys do laundry at the Jamboree. Sometimes the leaders require the boys to do laundry. Things get pretty stinky out there. Just think summer camp times two because it will be two weeks on the road. Send lighter weight clothing because the heat and humidity doesn’t always allow clothing to dry out quickly.

Temperatures at Jamboree are all over the map, but generally it is hot: mid 80s to 100 plus degrees. Sometimes it does really cool off, particularly after a rain. Humidity will be high most of the time.

Suggested Other Gear to Take:

   1-2 pair swimming trunks
1 towel for bathing and swimming
   2-3 extra scout-related t-shirts or Contingent t-shirts
4-5 pair underwear, maybe extras needed
1 long scout pants or switchback pants
   1 pajamas/sleeping clothes
1 rain gear, poncho, disposable ponchos
1 red nylon or fleece jacket, or sweatshirt: BSA type items
1 shower kit: toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, soap, deodorant, shampoo, and other grooming essentials
   1 water bottle
   1 summer weight sleeping bag
   1 light-weight sheet
   1 small or inflatable pillow
1 foam or inflatable sleeping pad
1 flashlight/headlamp: smaller rather than larger
1 set of wet shoes or flip flops, shower shoes
1 small laundry bag for dirty clothes
   1 duffel bag (provided)
1 back pack with hydration bladder (provided)
   1 sling back pack (provided)
   1 non-aerosol insect repellant
   1 bottle of sunscreen
1 small bottle (3 oz.) of Woolite for washing clothes

MARK everything that goes to Jamboree! Again, MARK Everything that goes to Jamboree! This will be the boy’s name and Jamboree Troop number, which is the only way we can identify boys at Jamboree. So, mark your clothes and gear as such: Johnny Scout, Troop 1450. Labeled clothing/gear, even socks, often get back to their owners.
