Fellow Scouters, This is an opportunity for scouts to earn a merit badge which is not usually offered at merit badge colleges or at summer camp. What we are attempting to do is take a program that is already in existence and with a little tweaking make it fit many of the requirements of a merit badge. Attached are an informational flyer and a list of events. This is an initial attempt at a program that could be expanded to other DNR programs and additional merit badges. Pat Schlarbaum of the Iowa DNR Wildlife Diversity Program has signed on as a merit badge counselor to facilitate this initial effort. I think that this is an excellent opportunity to earn a badge during the winter months especially for those that live close to one of the events. I hope that we have enough boys show an interest to get our feet wet and make this a worthwhile endeavor beneficial to both the BSA and the DNR.
If you have a scout that is interested, please contact Pat at Pat.Schlarbaum@dnr.iowa.gov or (515) 432-2823 ext 104 so he knows how many to expect. If by chance there would be overwhelming response for an event he might have to limit participation in order to provide a quality opportunity for those participating. Feel free to pass this on to anyone that you feel might be interested
