Winnebago Scout Reservation - Use by Non-Scouting Groups
The Winnebago Scout Reservation is a year round camping facility
that is home to the Winnebago Council Cub Scout camps in the summer,
Boy Scout Camporees in the Spring and Fall
and provides many other camping opportunities for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts,
Venturing and for non-scout related groups including school and
church groups, youth groups, 4-H, Girl Scouts, service
organizations, private business, company picnics and many more.
When camp is not in session the facilities are available for day, overnight or weekend use by other organizations. It has also been a great overnight stop for scout and youth groups who are traveling and need a comfortable overnight stop. Contact the Winnebago Council office or the camp Ranger.
What is there to do at WSR? How about swimming in the pool, having a picnic, archery, shooting BB guns at targets, mountain biking, riding pedal derby cars, playing outdoor games on the large activity field, climbing and sliding in the play area, rock climbing, or bouldering, canoeing or kayaking, going on a nature hike, and in the Winter cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Learn more abut the activities and facilities.
Overnighters - The Winnebago Scout Reservation boasts several sleeping cabins and tent campsites that are available year-round. Themed campsites with picnic shelters include the Staudt Hollow log cabins, the Double H Ranch, the Gold Rush Town, the Calvery Fort, the Indian Village and the Riverside Shire (aka the Hobbit homes). Beautiful views of the Shell Rock River can be seen from several campsites. Shower facilities and a dining are also available.
Volunteering and Community Service
- There are many opportunities to to put in community service hours
at WSR. Learn more on the volunteer page.
Come for a day or a weekend and spend part of your time helping with
projects to improve the camps and part of the time enjoying the
facilities and activities. There are projects that need helpers at
any time of the year. Contact the camp Ranger.
An overnight rest - Many youth groups that are traveling will stop for the night at WSR and sleep in the cabins, soak in the pool and use the dining hall and and other activity area. It is not good to travel too far in one day and a friendly resting spot is great for the youth and adults. Visitors have included groups from the south who are heading north to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or Charles Sommers Canoe base or troops coming from the north or east who are heading to Philmont. Make your reservation through the Council office, but be sure to talk to or e-mail the camp Ranger also so that he can have activity staff available to meet your needs.
